Media over QUIC
Steve Miller-Jones discusses the benefits of media over QUIC
Video transcription
“Media over QUIC’s really interesting. I think it’s the first protocol that’s come along, that’s fully formed enough to really replace HTTP as the defacto streaming, default protocol. And I think, it’s got a few things in it that are super interesting, that enable it to be good for media delivery. It has a lot of low latency benefits, or low ring latency benefits, that standard HTTP doesn’t quite get to.
It has some capabilities to enable stream synchronization, which of course, for broadcast versus direct-to-consumer is an important thing as well, so you can start to get synchronized streams and begin to lose this lag of live events. And it has a lot of mechanisms embedded within it to help with traffic shaping, traffic engineering, and traffic management.
So, I think media over QUIC is going to be very important – to keep our eyes on it. It’s going to be a significant change in the industry.”
